Verification of Title:

Step 1- The applicant has to log in to http://www.rni.nic.in/ .
Step 2- After logging in, the applicant must go through the instructions provided on the website.
Step 3- After reading the instructions, the applicant should click on the tab “online title application”.
Step 4- Then the applicant must go through the form carefully and review the details to avoid any further issues related to the process.
Step 5- Now applicant must provide the required details and provide an active phone number and e-mail address.
Step 6- The applicant must submit an application to the relevant authority (DM/ DC/ SDM/ DCP/ JCP/ CMM).
Step 7- The above authority will forward your application to the RNI. It will also provide the signature, seal and name of the authority. RNI will then review the application.
The application will not be processed if RNI didn’t get the hard copy. Applicants should keep a hard copy of the application for future reference.

1. Registration of title

Step-1 Authentication declaration

After attaining the verification letter from RNI, it should be presented to authority any of the following authorities:

⦁ DC
⦁ SDM
⦁ DCP
⦁ JCP
⦁ CMM

Along with the verification letter, it is necessary to submit a filled up declaration (form-1) for verification. If the publisher and printer are two different people, then a separate declaration is required from both parties. If the place of publication and printing press are located in different districts, then a separate declaration is needed from both the districts. The publisher can file a declaration from the district of publication and the same is the case of the printer.

Step-2 Publication of Volume

According to the PRB Act of 1867:

⦁ The first issue should be added within 42 days of validation of affirmation when periodicity is daily.
⦁ The first issue should be added within 90 days of validation of affirmation if periodicity is fortnightly or above.
⦁ If articles, publications or particulars are to be published in multiple languages, then they are to be initiated in the languages stated.

Step-3 Documents Required for RNI Registration

The list of documents required for RNI registration includes the following:

⦁ Written Agreement with the publisher is applicable
⦁ Copy of the first issue

Step-4 Certificate of Registration By RNI

After dual completion of all the steps and documentation, the RNI authority will issue an RNI certificate along with the registration.

The newspaper should contain:

⦁ Title of the newspaper on all pages
⦁ Name and address of printing press (in case printer and publisher are different)
⦁ Volume and issue number
⦁ Date and page number on all pages
⦁ A line containing the name of the printer, publisher, owner and editor

Printing Guidelines:

⦁ The title must be unique and should not be similar to the existing title of any newspaper.
⦁ The title can be displayed in both horizontal and vertical context.
⦁ The font size of the title must not be more than 25%.
⦁ If the publication is in more than one language, the title must be displayed in masthead in any one language.
⦁ If the title is not in Hindi or English, then it must be displayed on the masthead.

Imprint line guidelines

Following guidelines are to be considered when it comes to imprint line guidelines:

⦁ The imprint line should be published in the relevant language.
⦁ This format must be considered for imprint line [Printed by ___ Published by ___ on behalf of ___ (name of owner) __ and printed at ___ (name and complete address of printing press) ___ and published from ___ complete address of the place of publication ___ Editor ___ ]
⦁ After the declaration, the name of the editor must be present in the RNI registration process.
⦁ As per section 3 of the PRB Act, the content in the imprint line must be legible to the public. All information published in imprint line must be visible to the public. The imprint line must be mentioned in a specific place, i.e, on page 3 or the last page of the publication.

RNI Cannot be obtained for the following:

⦁ When the title is similar to a well-known foreign title or title from another language unless it is the owner of the title.
⦁ News agencies, coaching material, feature agencies, electronic versions of publications.
⦁ The title does not contain news, articles, opinions or views like ads, tender, classifieds, calendar, word book channel or gazette.
